Dr. Dev Prajapati's Story

I was born in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, in 2001. Growing up in a middle-class Gujarati family, I watched my parents work tirelessly to provide opportunities they never had. Like many Indian families, mine believed that becoming a doctor was the ultimate achievement.

But I had a bigger dream – I wanted to practice dentistry in America.

The Main Challenge

My biggest obstacle wasn’t my scores or my credentials – it was the lack of U.S. clinical experience that admissions committees wanted to see.

Most advisors told me the same thing: “Do an MPH first, then apply.” That meant 2-3 additional years and massive expenses before even getting a chance to apply to dental programs.

I refused to accept that timeline. I knew there had to be a better way.

Dental School and the American Dream

I completed my Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from ADC in Ahmedabad. While most of my classmates were planning their careers in India, I was researching what it would take to practice in the United States.

My school friend Marish was on a similar path, but for medicine. We spent countless hours discussing our American dreams – him preparing for USMLE, me trying to decode the CAAPID process.

The more I learned about the path to American dentistry, the more complex it seemed. Most consultants were either selling expensive MPH programs or giving generic advice that didn’t address the real challenges international dentists face.

The Strategy That Worked

Instead of following the typical path, I decided to create an application that was completely unique, personalized, and tailored to what admissions committees actually wanted to see. Every part of my CAAPID application told a cohesive story. My personal statement wasn’t generic – it was authentically mine. My school selections were strategic, not random. My letters of recommendation came from people who could speak specifically about my potential in American dentistry. Most importantly, I found ways to demonstrate my understanding of U.S. dental standards and my commitment to American dentistry without spending years in expensive preparatory programs.

What We Learned

The path to American dentistry isn’t about spending more years in school or following what everyone else does. It’s about understanding what admissions committees actually want and presenting yourself in a way that makes them believe you belong in their program. Most international dentists have the clinical skills and knowledge to succeed. What they lack is the strategy to present themselves effectively in the American admissions system.

Today and Tomorrow

I’m currently in my AEGD program at Howard University, learning American dentistry from the inside while helping other international dentists achieve their dreams through P2A Consultancy.Every day I spend in clinic reinforces what I learned during my application process – international dentists don’t need more degrees or more years of preparation. They need the right guidance from people who have actually succeeded in this system.
